Gas Safety
Around 14 people die in the UK each year from the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning due to faulty gas appliances. We want to keep you safe. To do this, we need to carry out at least one gas safety visit in your home each year. This is a legal requirement for all landlords.
You’ll receive a letter from us 10 months after your last check confirming the date of your next visit. Please make sure you are at home on the day of your gas safety check. If the date on your letter is not convenient for you, please let us know by calling us as soon as possible on 0141 270 7262 and we will arrange a new appointment.
If you miss this vital safety check and any rearranged appointments, this is a breach of your tenancy. We may have to take further action to gain entry to your home and you will be recharged for any costs incurred in doing so.
All of our contractors' engineers carry Gas Safe identification cards. You should not let anyone into your home without asking for identification first. If you are in any doubt, please contact our office on 0141 270 7262 as soon as possible and our staff will be able to verify that the engineer is working on our behalf.
Should you require any further information regarding your annual service, this can be found on Gas Safe website: www.gassaferegister.co.uk/help-and-advice/
If you smell gas in or around your home follow these simple steps straight away:
• turn off all gas appliances (if you are able)
• put out any cigarettes
• open all doors and windows
• don’t use matches or naked flames
• turn the gas off at the meter (if you are able)
• don’t switch on any electrical switches or appliances
• don’t press buttons on the door entry or warden call systems.
• vacate your property
You should also call emergency service company SGN as soon as you can on 0800 111 999.
If you have a CO detector in your home and it is sounding, please turn off all gas appliances (if you are able), open the windows and vacate the property.
You can also call us at the Glasgow office on 0141 270 7262, or speak to your local Development Manager during office hours. You can also contact BR24 Out of Hours by pulling your cord or calling 0141 950 1025. Our BR24 operators will speak to SGN on your behalf and have an engineer with you as soon as possible to deal with any breakdowns.
